Kimiaki Kageyama is Professor and Head of the Department of Metal at Hiko Mizuno Jewelry College in Tokyo, Japan

« The work of Kimiaki Kageyama, represented by gallery Deux Poissons, is a case in point. His iron rose brooch seems impossibly detailed and is a unique use of a base metal and resin to create a slightly decayed appearance. » (JapanTimes)

Kimiaki Kageyama is one of the most important Japanese Master Goldsmiths. He did a workshop at Alchimia school about « Japanese traditional copper alloys and coloring‘ (2013). In Japan, coloring metals has been experimented since 4th~5th century.  Direct coloring began around the end of the Heian period (794-1185) but it is during the Muromachi period (1330-1568) that the development of various kinds of copper alloys suitable for coloring flourished.

Gold and silver, iron, ivory, such as a variety of materials are used, such as the production method of sword fittings and armor ancient in Japan, while also based on traditional techniques, working on a number of contemporary jewelry production out of the box there.

Borax08001 welcome you to join us for the opening of Arritmianext Thursday March 5th, from the bottom of our hearts.  This exhibition has a special meaning since it’s an ideal occasion to meet once again in Barcelona, the city that watched us develop as jewellers and as a collective, almost five years ago. This show will be hosted by Amaranto Joies, a true example of a gallery committed to contemporary artistic jewellery and its dissemination.

Arritmia

Durante una Arritmia  el corazón puede latir demasiado rápido, demasiado despacio o de manera irregular.
Entender como una Arritmia el proceso creativo es una metáfora que nos acerca a la realidad que el colectivo Bórax08001 ha experimentado desde sus inicios.
Con Arritmia, el colectivo busca reflejar estos distintos estados a través de una selección de joyas, creadas en este último tiempo. Siendo una muestra que da a conocer el ritmo de los latidos creativos y las variaciones en la frecuencia que va haciendo que cada uno de los miembros se destaque por su impronta personal.
 
 During an arrythmia the heart can beat too fast, too slow or in an irregular manner. Understanding the creative process as an arrythmia is a metaphor that brings us closer to the reality that the Bórax08001 collective has experienced since its beginnings. With Arritmia the collective wishes to reflect these diverse states, through a selection of jewels created in recent times. Being an exhibition that displays the rhythm of our creative beats and variations in frequency which make each member shine by their own personal imprint.

La 1ra propuesta: “Yo te cuento, tú me miras” se describe mejor con la frase de  Gaston Bachelard: « pero el verdadero armario no es un mueble cotidiano. No se abre todos los días. Lo mismo que un alma que no se confía, la llave no está en la puerta.« 

Esta exposición nos ofrece una mirada íntima de las Joyeras: Montse Basora, Lourdes Carmelo, Lola Gratacós, Nuria Anguren y la artista invitada Isabel Banal.

We present to you BLANCO, an international group of young jewellery makers. Within the connecting point of the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht we all developed our own approach to the making of jewellery, at the same time we were always fascinated by eachother. Our diversity is characterized by following subjects: the ideal of beauty, one’s self-awareness, aesthetics and oddness, tactile perception and fragility, as well as the use of symbols in our visual culture, the bridgeover of cultural differences and the confrontation with the past. Now the time has come to continue our creative exchange and open up to the audience. BLANCO is a starting point for us as beginners and a meeting point. Therefor we like to cordially invite you to our exhibition.

There’s always a beginning, an opportunity to grow.

A special occasion for a special location – parallel to the exhibition on Anton Cepka, one of the masters of art jewelry, this year the space « under the staircase » will again serve as an experimental workshop for the younger generation: Die Neue Sammlung will show student work from the highly renowned Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Tokyo – A selection of students and recent graduates. Working collaboratively with international jewelry artists, college lecturer Mikiko Minewaki and professor Kimiaki Kageyama will curate the exhibition specifically for Die Neue Sammlung.

An exhibition of Die Neue Sammlung – The International Design Museum Munich – in collaboration with Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Tokyo.

Bubble Land is an imaginary space reflecting our mind state, delivering treasures integrated with our history, present and fantasy on the island we live in.
We may all come from the same land; some see it as a mystic island that is often neglected by the outside, while others embrace the diverse, rich and wealthy livelihood.
The multi-perspective experience we share is a brief moment on the proceeding time lapse we live in. It contains spiritual eternal values, but not always visually perpetual. It is the little details acknowledged by the inhabitants participating in daily lives that bring gratitude or responses toward the present situations.

 At the latest body of work, Sigurd Bronger presents jewellery which incorporates a specific material or object secured in a holder. Using natural and existing artefacts, the artist moves between wearable jewellery and art objects.

«  »It is almost 10 years since I had a exhibition at Galerie Ra, Amsterdam. So for this exhibition, I constructed different carrying devices that relates to the issue “in between”. I have chosen to use some of the same material  I used in my earlier exhibitions at Ra. Materials like: Egg, different stones, cactus spike, diamond, shell, and so on. There are some new materials as well; which I have not used before. Many of the carrying devices have a construction that holds the material in between the construction. The issue of in between  can also be seen upon the space between the material and the construction, and in some of the pieces they contain different spaces in between the material itself. Some of the new pieces can be placed in between functional jewellery art  and objects. »  Sigurd Bronger

« Sigurd Bronger has made a collection of rings, booches and pendants called ‘Carrying Devices’. The collective theme In Between refers to the construction of this jewellery which incorporates a specific material or object secured in a holder. Sigurd either constructs this holder himself or makes it from existing artefacts. While the materials secured in these holders were previously natural in nature, such as an egg, a stone or a shell, nowadays he also uses materials from medical science or technology. The contrast between the generally robust steel holder and the fragile or delicate item this holds generates an amusing absurdity. With some pieces a magnifying glass ‘In Between’ the viewer and the object creates extra focus. For this collection Sigurd has once again reused an iconic piece of jewellery by an artist colleague, the Chewing Gum Brooch by Ted Noten. Individually creating while responding to each other is an intriguing concept of teamwork shown by the Finnish triad.

Hibernate group is founded in 1999 and it is formed by three Finnish jewelry artists; Helena Lehtinen, Eija Mustonen and Tarja Tuupanen. The group members mostly work individually, separately; but they get together to give feedback and criticism.Recent years Hibernate has been silent, hibernating.
In order to wake up from hibernation, it started a project with the title « Craft and tradition ».
The project has gone as following;
Each artist made two pieces about the topic « Craft and tradition ».
Then the group met and discussed, each artist gave her two pieces to two other members of the group. Everyone had now two new pieces made by others.
Then one reacted to both of these two pieces with individual works.
This was repeated 6 times.
In the end there is 36 studies about the topic. Plus consequences.

Number 7 has a biblical significance and it also corresponds to the days of the week, repeating themselves endlessly in a loop… – over and over and over … . A repetition that is being reflected in the new work by Silke Fleischer, as the routine of the everyday. The presented jewellery works refer to settings and actions and are questioning a break through this daily routine.

P. V. works with real matter. He is a firm believer in serendipity, he makes unforeseen discoveries while (re)searching something else. Maybe because of his name (Gr. Petros = rock) or maybe because of childhood memories, his main inspirational starting point is stone and the various geological processes by which rocks are formed. He even tries to make his favorite metal, aluminium, look like stone.

Nature’s Breath by Kye-Yeon Son

The exhibition includes sculpture and jewellery crafted in silver, copper and steel enamel by Kye-Yeon Son. Approximately fifty new works will grace the walls and display cases of the Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h, from March 20 to April 12, 2015.

L’exposition intitulée Nature’s Breath est composée de sculptures et de bijoux fabriqués en argent, en cuivre et/ou acier émaillé. Une cinquantaine d’œuvres nouvelles de l’artiste orneront les murs et les vitrines de la galerie Noel Guyomarc’h du 20 mars au 12 avril 2015.
Née en Corée du Sud, après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts à Séoul, puis une maitrise à l’Université d’Indiana, Bloomington, Kye-Yeon Son s’oriente finalement vers la joaillerie et l’orfèvrerie. Intéressée par la matière qu’est le métal, elle veut le comprendre, le manipuler, le forger et connaître ses composantes. Lois Etherington Betteridge, orfèvre Canadienne reconnue, deviendra son mentor lors de son passage de quelques années à Montréal, avant d’être invitée par Pamela Ritchie, professeur et responsable de la division Métiers des métiers d’art à la NSCAD University à enseigner. 20 ans plus tard, elle enseigne toujours avec enthousiasme et dévouement sa passion. Kye-Yeon Son est récipiendaire du Prix Saidye Bronfman, un des prestigieux prix du Gouverneur Général en arts visuels et en arts médiatiques.
 « Les caractéristiques physiques inhérentes de fil d’acier fin me permettent d’explorer diverses structures délicates agissant réciproquement sur les espaces positifs et négatifs tout en créant du volume, des textures, de l’espace, de la couleur et de l’ombre dans mes œuvres.«  Kye-Yeon Son.
Le corpus de travail présenté à la galerie rassemble des sculptures et des broches construites à partir de fils métalliques, principalement de l’acier, que l’artiste soude méticuleusement les uns aux autres pour créer des formes et des volumes inspirés des paysages hivernaux en Nouvelle-Écosse. Avec le raffinement et la patience que réclame ce travail, paradoxalement Son semble aborder le mouvement et la gestuelle comme un peintre. Le regard qu’on pose sur ses œuvres fait oublier la construction et la complexité technique. Émaillées avec délicatesse, les créations de Son offrent un moment de réflexion et de sérénité sur le rythme de la vie.

« Jewellery is the building block put on to the surface of the body, and so are the constructional elements on housings and architectures.
I use the symbols of Taiwanese housing elements that people rely on, to create space within the compact city lives and frame ourselves into a secure and comfort environment. The unintentional action divides people into distinctive characters throughout the years.
I try to capture these actions being neglected for the ordinary, and magnify the images by retaining the icons and mimicking in wearable dimension. »

Aire Negro(Alejandra Solar -Recuerdos 7 Brooch 2014)
Throughout her creative process, Luxembourg-based jeweller Alejandra Solar continually gathers images from the mundane. She then selects some of the characters, landscapes and objects she has discovered to become part of a different story in an imaginary world.
By placing these elements in a new context, altering and playing with them, she finds surprising and unexpected connections between them and their new environment. Then the stories start over, and the ordinary and familiar become uncanny and strange. 
Themes of mysticism and fantasy emerge and become great sources of inspiration. Solar was born in Mexico City and completed her BA in graphic design there, and later graduated from the Escola Massana in Barcelona with a degree in artistic jewellery. She is currently completing her MFA at the University of Trier in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, in the jewellery department.

TROPHIES // IN THE REIGN OF COYOTE
The hunt is a ritual; through gathering, searching, and collecting we create amulets, myths, and trophies. The works of these jewelers are rooted in these traditions; they look to nature and translate what they see.To hunt is to gather, to search, to collect. Through hunting, making, the weaving of stories, we are able to resist modernity’s denial of belief, and to keep our ties with the natural world. There is a primal, universal longing for myth, for an understanding of the immeasurable power of nature, and an allure in conquering, transforming, becoming. The hunt is a ritual, a way to insert ourselves into an ages-old cycle. In hunting we take on the role of maker, turning one thing into another. In making we are shamans, translating worlds, perspectives, identity.These jewelers distinguish themselves through their sensitive treatment of nature. Their work utilizes the material language of the trophy through the use of animal imagery and materials. The transformations they wrought, and the stories they weave, set them apart from other makers and unify them through aesthetic and conceptual application. In the Reign of Coyote references a collection of stories about the earth’s becoming, fables of animal and human relationships. The work of these artists looks back to a time when we, as humans, turned directly to nature for guidance, sustenance, and support.

Jane Dodd works in metal, wood, bone, shell and makes pieces that investigate storytelling and narrative. She is particularly interested in exploring a dialogue between nature and culture.

 Tanel Veenre  Tanel Veenre ‘s jewels take one on a journey that starts from the depths of the sea, continues on through coral reefs, past dancing sea horses and then on to the cultivation of silkworms. The voyage ends in a cosmic cloud.

Her research interests include the interaction between craft and industry, between unique and serial with a particular focus on (re)production, digital technology, tactility, the behaviour of materials and the subjective role of the maker. In her recent series, Hunacturing, Langendries is questioning the nature of reproduction via a combination of natural materials, mechanical treatment and the human touch.

Animal imagery and animal-based materials have been used in jewelry dating back to the first civilizations. Gold challenges herself to create jewelry that contains the essence of an animal rather than merely a representation.

She works with a variety of medium including metal, fiber, concrete, and spray-paint creating bold, compelling, and interactive wearable art. Currently, she is exploring snake imagery, symbolism, and serpent dichotomies within
her work.

 he grew up in the West Desert (USA) where he developed a close relationship to the natural world. His work is invested in material and myth, both cultural and personal. Through the building of these myth he creates artifacts and amulets of The Tribe
 Anna Talbot  Anna Talbot
Anna Talbot’s jewellery is inspired by fairy tales, nursery rhymes, songs and stories. Wolves, deer, trees, forests and Little Red Riding Hood are all central elements in her universe, and they don’t necessarily stick to their traditional roles.
